Would you like a position with broad clinical exposure in anesthesiology and perioperative medicine while gaining experience in an English-speaking healthcare system?
On behalf of university hospitals and established anesthesiology departments in Ireland, we are recruiting anesthesiology consultants for 12 or 24-month positions, with the possibility of extension.
This opportunity is well suited for specialists who would like to work in modern hospital environments with high surgical activity, close multidisciplinary collaboration and broad clinical variety. Several departments work closely with perioperative medicine, intensive care and emergency medicine services.
We are particularly interested in candidates with strong experience in general anesthesiology and perioperative care. For several of the positions, a minimum of three years of experience at consultant level is preferred.
Please note that candidates must hold EU/EEA medical registration and specialist certification to be eligible for these roles.
About the position
As an anesthesiology consultant, you will provide anesthesia for both elective and emergency procedures, as well as assess and manage patients before, during and after surgery. The role combines operating room activity, perioperative assessment, acute care and collaboration with surgical and medical specialties.
The positions involve close collaboration with operating room nurses, ICU staff, surgeons, emergency departments and other specialist teams within the hospital. Several of the hospitals are university-affiliated and have active specialist environments within research, teaching and clinical development.
Typical responsibilities
- Providing anesthesia for elective and emergency surgical procedures
- Preoperative assessment and perioperative management of patients
- Airway management and emergency procedures
- Participation in trauma teams and acute medical situations
- Collaboration with intensive care and postoperative care units
- Multidisciplinary collaboration around patient pathways
- Supervision and mentoring of resident doctors and other healthcare professionals
- Contributing to quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical development
- Participation in on-call duties where applicable

- Holds EU/EEA medical registration and specialist certification

Salary
Base salary depending on experience, typically around €233,000–€280,000 gross per year.
