Would you like a position with broad clinical exposure in endocrinology and diabetes while gaining experience in an English-speaking healthcare system?
On behalf of university hospitals and established specialist environments in Ireland, we are recruiting endocrinology consultants for 12 or 24-month positions, with the possibility of extension.
This opportunity is well suited for specialists who would like to work in a clinical environment with broad case variety, close multidisciplinary collaboration and a combination of hospital-based and community-based care. Several of the positions combine inpatient and outpatient responsibilities with collaboration across primary and secondary care services.
We are particularly interested in candidates with strong experience in general endocrinology and diabetes care. Candidates with a broad internal medicine background will be viewed favorably. For several of the positions, a minimum of three years of experience at consultant level is preferred.
Please note that you must hold specialist certification from an EU/EEA country to be eligible for these roles.
About the position
As an endocrinology consultant, you will work with the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with a broad spectrum of endocrine and metabolic disorders. The role combines outpatient clinics, inpatient care, and collaboration with community and primary care services.
The positions involve close collaboration with diabetes nurse specialists, dietitians, podiatry and diabetic foot teams, radiology, surgical specialties and other medical departments. Several of the hospitals are university-affiliated and have active specialist environments within research, teaching and clinical development.
Typical responsibilities
- Assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of endocrine disorders
- Management and follow-up of patients with diabetes in outpatient and inpatient settings
- Evaluation and treatment of acute endocrine conditions
- Participation in multidisciplinary meetings and coordination of patient pathways
- Collaboration with primary care and community-based services
- Supervision and mentoring of resident doctors and other healthcare professionals
- Contributing to quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical development
- Participation in on-call duties where applicable
Clinical areas
Endocrinology departments in Ireland manage a broad spectrum of conditions, including:
- Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes
- Thyroid disorders
- Pituitary and adrenal disorders
- Osteoporosis and calcium disorders
- Metabolic diseases
- Endocrine conditions related to pregnancy
- Diabetic foot care and multidisciplinary diabetes services
Several departments also provide specialist clinics in areas such as insulin pump therapy, pituitary disorders, and advanced diabetes management.
We are looking for someone who
- Is a specialist in endocrinology
- Holds EU/EEA medical licensure and specialist certification
- Has broad experience within general endocrinology and diabetes
- Has experience from both outpatient and hospital-based practice
- A broad internal medicine background is considered an advantage
- Has excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken
- Thrives in an international and multidisciplinary working environment
- Maintains high professional standards with strong focus on quality and patient safety
- Is motivated by professional development and experience from a new healthcare system

Salary
Base salary depending on experience, typically around €233,000–€280,000 gross per year.
